In pursuant to Republic Act 8749, also known as the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999, the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region I conducted a Garage Emission Testing on April 3, 2024 at the Provincial Capitol Compound.

A total of 55 vehicles and 4 heavy equipment were voluntarily inspected using EMB Region I’s Opacimeter and Gas Analyzer. Specialists in attendance were Engr. Joseph Carl Rimando, Environmental Management Specialist II; Engr. Eugene C. Ventura, Environmental Management Specialist II; Engr. Vic Joseph R. Esquiejo, Environmental Management Specialist II; Mr. Vereno Michael G. Sabado, Administrative Assistant III; and Mr. Alvin V. Deleña, Technical Support Specialist.

All but four single gasoline-fueled vehicles passed the test. The drivers and owners of those that failed were advised to take their vehicles for preventive maintenance checks and reminded of the importance of keeping them efficient to lessen air pollution contributions.

The Garage Emission Testing aimed to ensure that the vehicles around the Provincial Capitol comply with emissions standards under RA 8749 while fostering a community of well-informed drivers. The project is a part of Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David and the Provincial Government of La Union’s bigger call for #KalikasanNaman and the overall safety of all KaPROBINSYAnihan.
