PDRRMC Convenes, Focuses on Rainy Season Preparedness

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), chaired by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David, convened for its 2nd Quarter Meeting at the La Union Peace, Order, and Safety – Emergency Operations Center in the City of San Fernando, La Union. The meeting emphasized the province's commitment to ensuring the safety of kaPROBINSYAnihan and enhancing disaster preparedness for the upcoming rainy season.

Presided over by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Officer, Mr. Aureliano Rulloda III, the council discussed various strategies to bolster the province's emergency response capabilities.

The PDRRMO, serving as the secretariat of the council, provided a detailed presentation on the available emergency equipment, vehicles, and response teams within the province. Additionally, they outlined the stockpiles of food and non-food items ready for distribution to those affected by potential disasters.

The PDRRMC urged all member offices, especially those involved in emergency response, to submit summaries of their available emergency equipment. This initiative aims to ensure a coordinated and efficient deployment of resources during emergencies, thereby enhancing the province’s overall disaster response capability.

In addition to human safety, the PDRRMC also raised concerns about the welfare of livestock that might be affected during disasters. Mr. Rulloda mentioned that the secretariat will be coordinating with the appropriate offices to provide assistance to livestock and including them in the evacuation and care strategies to ensure that the agricultural sector remains resilient during and after adverse weather events.

Furthermore, the Program Trust Fund of the council was among the key topics discussed during the meeting. This fund is designated for providing assistance to people affected by disasters for timely and adequate support needed.

The PDRRMC commits to support province’s La Union PROBINSYAnihan as they remain steadfast in its mission to protect the residents of La Union as they continuously improve their strategies and resources to mitigate the impact of unexpexted disasters that might affect the province especially this coming rainy season.
