PadyaKalikasan Ignites Sustainable Tourism in La Union

In celebration of the Tourism Month, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the La Union Provincial Tourism Office (LUPTO) held the PadyaKalikasan-La Union Amazing Race Challenge on September 16, 2023. The PadyaKalikasan is a race challenge for all bike enthusiasts in the province aimed to promote Bike Tourism and Sustainable Tourism practices in the province.
A total of 50 bikers participated in the race that started at the La Union Provincial Capitol and ended at the Baluarte Watchtower of Luna. Urbiztondo Surfing Area of San Juan, Carcarmay Centennial Tree of Bacnotan and the Immuki Island of Balaoan served as the pitstops of the race wherein the racers were to perform a task to advance to the next station. The tasks was combination of group dynamics and environmental advocacy that made the activity more impactful.
As part of the challenge, the players were tasked to pick-up trash along the Urbiztondo beach where a total of 25 kilos of garbage were collected. Two hundred (200) Bakawan seedlings were also planted by the participants at the Immuki Island. These performance tasks and challenges are all focused at promoting responsible tourism in the province.
The winners of the challenge will be officially recognized during the La Union Tourism Summit on October 13, 2023.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David fully supports PadyaKalikasan-La Union Amazing Race Challenge as it stands as an example of how adventure and environmental conservation can seamlessly blend, forging a path towards a greener, more sustainable future for La Union and beyond.
The activity also serves as a driver to boost the province's journey to become the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
