ORDINANCE PROHIBITING LOUD ACTIVITIES DURING HOLY WEEK IN LA UNION APPROVED

In order to have a more solemn observance of Holy Week, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of La Union approved on third and final reading the Ordinance “Prohibiting Activities in Public Places that Disturb the Solemn Observance of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday of the Holy Week and Providing Penalty for Violation Thereof” during its 125th Regular Session on November 29, 2018.

It was observed that there were various activities in public places in the province that distract the solemnity of the observance of the Holy Week, thus, this legislative measure was introduced by SPM Geraldine R. Ortega jointly with all Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members.

The said ordinance prohibits the holding of concerts, discos, videoke, band performances, gigs, events and parties where loud and disturbing music are played or noises are created in public places during the Holy Week.

Any person found violating the ordinance will be penalized with a fine of Php 5,000.00 or imprisonment for one year, or both at the discretion of the court. If the violation of the ordinance is caused by a juridical person or entity, the responsible officer shall be meted the penalty of fine of Php 5,000.00 or imprisonment of one year, or both at the discretion of the court.

However, religious activities in observance of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday requiring the use of microphones, megaphones, sound systems and the like are exempted.

This ordinance shall take effect in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Code of 1991.
