NURTURING TALENTS OF THE LA UNION YOUTH

Participants of the Dramatic Art Workshop present their output as part of their training for the Summer Arts Camp 2019 conducted by the Provincial Government of La Union at Diego Silang Hall on June 18, 2019. The workshop aimed to build and enhance capabilities of theatre artist towards the revitalization and consolidation of theatre arts and to discover new opportunities and help young artists to work as one to share new art ideas. Participants were college students from Saint Louis College, Union Christian College, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-Mid-La Union Campus and North-La Union Campus.

With the aim to equip and expose the La Union youth to arts, the Provincial Government of La Union through Provincial Information Office-Culture and Arts Unit conducted a Summer Arts Camp with Visual Art and Dramatic Workshop at Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The program was divided into two parts. The first part was the visual arts workshop held on June 4, 2019. Ms. Grettalou A. Apolinar, a local artist of Tam-awan Village in Baguio City was invited to impart her knowledge in terms of visual arts. Participants were elementary pupils from public schools in the province.

The dramatic workshop was the second part of the summer camp. Mr. Anthony I. Cruz from the National Commission of Culture and the Arts (NCCA) – Committee on Dramatic Arts served as speaker and facilitator. Participants were college students from Saint Louis College, Union Christian College, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-Mid-La Union Campus and North-La Union Campus. They were trained on what to do in theatre arts.

This opportunity given to the youth is expected to provide an avenue for them to exhibit, hone and nurture their talents and creativity as local artists in hopes to also help in marketing the Province of La Union in the future.

The event was one of the activities set in the Dap-Ayan Project, a major flagship project of the Luzon Cluster of the NCCA which aims to develop an existing structure to become a cultural hub and develop a year-long local culture and arts programs that considers the important cultural assets of the community.
