Newly Elected Officials Urged to Prioritize Environmental Laws, National Building Code

The 21st Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved a resolution urging all elected local officials specially the Local Chief Executives (LCEs) to prioritize the effective and efficient implementation of all environmental laws and also the National Building Code of the Philippines on June 6, 2019.

The local officials were reminded of their duties under RA 9003 and RA 6541 in their own jurisdiction which provide for a systematic, comprehensive and ecological solid waste management and the safety of existing and future construction and building program respectively.

Board Member Bellarmin A. Flores II said that with the efficient implementation and effective enforcement of environmental and building laws, the government could eventually conserve, maintain and preserve the environment and protect the people.

He disclosed that one way of contributing in the realization the province’s vision to position the Province of La Union as the Heart Agri-tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025 is to ensure the effective implementation of laws for the protection and preservation of the environment and advancement of public safety. Local officials found in violation of the provisions of RA 9003 could be held administratively and criminally liable, he added.

The August Body also called on Local Government Officials within the province to cooperate in the rehabilitation and preservation of the environment.
