Naguilian District Hospital Intensifies Malaria Prevention

With the aim to strengthen the implementation of Malaria prevention, the Provincial Government of La Union through the Naguilian District Hospital (NDH) participated in a Refresher Training on Malaria Microscopy on July 7-13, 2019 at the Inter-Regional Collaboration Center, DOH, Regional Office 2, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

NDH representative was Medical Technologist I Ms. Marjelyn B. Rayray. Participants were trained with microscopic diagnosis of Malaria parasite counting, recording and reporting. The Do’s and Don’ts of daily maintenance of microscope was also discussed. The training also aimed to maintain the level of proficiency within standards and to update the participants’ knowledge on laboratory techniques.

Ms. Rayray’s recommendations after the training for action of NDH were to maintain focal intervention in the municipalities with barangays having stable, unstable and sporadic transmission; to ensure continued access to malaria diagnosis treatment and preventive measures in zero indigenous malaria free provinces; implement responsive malaria interventions among identified vulnerable group; establish functional organizational structures and malaria work force at all levels; and secure sufficient government and non-government financial resources in support of malaria control and elimination
