92 pregnant women joined in the celebration of the 18th National Buntis Day on March 10, 2021 at La Union Medical Center (LUMC) with the theme, “Reaching out to Filipino Women in these Trying Times.”

The celebration of the Buntis Day was pursuant  to Presidential Proclamation No. 569 s. 2004 declaring the 10th day of March of every year as “Araw ng mga Buntis.” This aims to educate women on pregnancy-related issues and to instill the importance of prenatal check-up during pregnancy to avoid maternal deaths.

Services offered included free pelvic ultrasound tests for high-risk pregnant women, pre-natal check ups, dental check ups, maternity gift packs, prenatal vitamins and snacks. Aside from these, also conducted was a lecture on care of pregnant women and their newborn in the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic care of Resident Physician Dr. Kaezel A. Lauigan, of LUMC OB-Gyne Department. Dr. Jepth K. Padilla on one hand, performed the ultrasound procedures.

The Araw ng mga Buntis celebration in LUMC was made possible through the initiative of the OB-Gyne Department of LUMC headed by Dr. Bernadette M. Lizada alongside other OB doctors and personnel. LUMC was given accreditation by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society Foundation, Inc. (POGS) in January 2020.
