LU VETS LEAD RESCUE OF AILING DOLPHIN

The Provincial Government of La Union through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet) spearheaded the rescue of a wounded common bottle-nose dolphin along the shoreline of Barangay Poro, City of San Fernando, La Union on May 28, 2018.
Provincial Veterinarian Nida N. Gapuz said that the rescue operations were conducted by a composite team from the City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), PNP Maritime Group, OPVet and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
It was learned that the said endangered sea creature was fed through esophageal tube before it was ferried to BFAR rehab center at Sto. Tomas, La Union for proper care and handling.
As mandated, OPVet is on the “close watch” to safeguard the welfare of endangered animal species which are now at the verge of extinction.
