LU Students Introduced to La Union Tourism Destinations

The Provincial Government of La Union through the Provincial Information Office – Tourism Operations Unit conducts a guided familiarization tour dubbed as “Tour Your Own Province” on June 13-14, 2019 in the different tourist destinations of La Union. Tourism and Hospitality Management students from various colleges and university in the province participated in the said activity which aimed to introduce and expose students to different tourism products and services of the province.

To further promote La Union as “The Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025,” the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Information Office - Tourism Operations Unit conducted a two-day Guided Familiarization Tour dubbed as “Tour Your Own Province” on June 13 – 14, 2019 in the different tourism destinations in the province.

College and University students participated in the said tour that aims to expose and enrich the knowledge of the students by experiencing the various tourists destinations, products and services of La Union. Participating schools included Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC), Saint Louis College (SLC), LORMA Colleges and Polytechnic College of La Union (PCLU). The activity served as a useful informative tool for transforming learning experience beyond the traditional classroom.

The tour included destinations in the first and second districts of the province such as the Macho Temple in City of San Fernando; Basi Processing Center and Silvercraft Industry in Naguilian; Pugo Adventure in Pugo; Grape picking in Bauang; Basilica Minore of Our of Charity Church, Museo de Iloko and Agoo Eco fun World in Agoo; and Bahay na Bato, Namancpacan Church and Baluarte Watchtower in Luna.

They were given brief information of the history of pottery making and hands on experience at Red Clay Pagdamilian in San Juan. The students were also introduced to the traditional way of Abel Making in the Municipality of Bangar.

Serving as the guide in the said tour, La Union tour guide Randall Brioso says, “Students’ participation in these type of activities brings about knowledge, appreciation and awareness of the different products, services, and what the whole Tourism Industry of La Union has to offer. Thus, encouraging involvement in all matters on tourism conservation and promotion.”
