The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) took proactive steps toward attaining a more sustainable tourism industry through the conduct of the Local Tourism Development Planning (LTDP) Orientation on May 27-31, 2024, at the Plaza De Castiel, San Juan La Union.
It was made possible with the collaborative efforts of the PGLU, through the La Union Provincial Tourism Office (LUPTO), and the Department of Tourism - Region 1. The different city and municipal tourism officers in La Union were the participants.
The orientation outlines sustainability and community participation as key concepts in formulating an LTDP. This ensures that local plans and related regulatory policies, such as the tourism code, promote a balance between society, economy, and environment while actively enabling transformative local tourism governance to improve the quality of life of its host communities. This training is also geared towards capacitating Local Government Units (LGUs) with a systematic way of data-gathering and report generation to ensure the reliability and relevance of tourism statistics.
As the province transitions into a more sustainable future, these stakeholders are confronted with new expectations and demands from tourists, which the said training aimed to particularly address moving forward.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David expressed her full support as she underlined the significance of the LTDP Orientation given tourism’s contributions to La Union’s cultural and economic progress.
The LTDP Orientation is only one out of a series of trainings in line with the Tourism, Culture, and Arts Competency Support Program to further improve the services offered by the PGLU and its component LGUs.
