LU SP Visits National Historical Commission of the Philippines; Seeks Clarification on Historical Issues and Guidelines

The employees of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of La Union paid a courtesy visit to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in Manila on August 17, 2023. They were received by Mr. Ferdinand Gregorio, (position) of the said office.

The visit is part of the public consultation of the Committee on Laws, Rules, and Privileges chaired by the Honorable Jennifer C. Mosuela Fernandez, to seek and incorporate the views and knowledge of individuals, stakeholders, for the drafting of a policy that will benefit our kaprobinsiaan.

The delegation, composed of staff under BM Mosuela and the SP Secretariat led by OIC SP Secretary Jane T. Flores, were equipped by Mr. Ferdinand Gregorio of NHCP, with knowledge on the guidelines on naming and renaming of public places. Both parties engaged in discussions about the conservation and preservation of the historical sites especially in the province and other matters of mutual interests.

Mr. Gregorio explained the main role of their office which is to conserve, promote, and popularize the nation's historical and cultural heritage and resources in the country through research and dissemination, management and conservation of historical sites, and heraldry works.

The NHCP and the La Union delegation agreed to work together, particularly in enhancing the role and expanding the contributions of NHCP in the management and conservation of historical sites and in crafting of laws related thereto.
