La Union bet Maica Rose Panelo bags the crown for Search for Ms. Inclusion Philippines-Region I on August 25, 2018 held at the Robinson's Place, Calasiao, Pangasinan. 13 Women With Disabilities coming from the four provinces and nine cities in Region I competed for the title.

La Union pride, Ms. Maica Rose Panelo, bagged the title Ms. Inclusion Philippines – Region 1 2018 defeating thirteen Women With Disabilities (WWD) from four provinces and nine cities in Region I on August 25, 2018 at Robinsons Place Pangasinan, Calasiao, Pangasinan.

With the theme “Making the Rights Real for Persons with Disability,” the Regional Association of Women with Disabilities - Region 1, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office I, spearheaded the said search which includes Women with Disabilities who are 18 to 30 years old, single, and a bonafide resident of their participating province or city.

The Province of La Union was represented by Ms. Panelo, a Grade 10 student and hailing from Barangay Cadumanian, Rosario, La Union. Ms. Panelo has a communication disability. Aside from being the title holder, Ms. Panelo also won the Best in Talent and Ms. Convention on the Rights of PWDs awards. She will compete again to represent Region I on March, 2019 for the title Ms. Inclusion Philippines - National Level.

According to Regional Association of Women with Disabilities in Region I President Jennifer Garcia, the objective of the competition is to become the advocate of their sector’s right to be included in policy or decision-making in the country. They were judged according to their awareness on the concept of inclusion, beauty and confidence, talent or skill, online media votes and audience impact.

This event aims to strengthen the advocacy and unity among women with disability in the Province as well as in Region 1. Likewise, it also aims to enable women with disability to articulate and understand the principle of Gender and Development. It is an avenue to increase awareness on engaging women with disability to participate at all levels of policy, decision-making, and socio – economic initiatives and realities.

Furthermore, the event is an instrument in raising public awareness and consciousness on disability in the country through mobilization and coordination with various government instrumentalities including non-government organizations, the media, and the sector of persons with disabilities, among others, and thereby encouraging every citizen of the country to take active responsibility in the upliftment of the economic and social conditions of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the society.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Bellarmin A. Flores II, as the Committee Chairman of Committee on Social Services, sponsored a Resolution of Congratulations to Ms. Maica Rose R. Panelo during the 113th regular session of the 21st Sangguniang Panlalawigan of La Union on August 30, 2018 at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Provincial Legislative Building and Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
