La Union to Host Maritime Training Activity

The Philippine Navy, headed by Commander Nichols Driz, welcomes Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III in an Arrival Honor during the Philippine Navy Command Briefing on June 26, 2018 at the Naval Forces Northern Luzon, Naval Station Ernesto Ogbinar, Poro Point, City of San Fernando, La Union. Gov. Pacoy served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the said briefing.

Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III attended the Philippine Navy (PN) Command Briefing on June 26, 2018 at the Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL), Naval Station Ernesto Ogbinar, Poro Point, City of San Fernando, La Union in preparation for the upcoming Maritime Training Activity (MTA) Sama Sama 2018 to be conducted in the Province of La Union from July 9 - 14, 2018.

Gov. Pacoy, as the Guest of Honor and Speaker, was welcomed in the headquarters with an arrival honor by the NFNL headed by Commodore Nichols Driz.

In his speech, Gov. Pacoy expressed his gratitude for choosing La Union as the venue for the MTA Sama Sama 2018 saying, “I am deeply honored knowing that La Union shall have its contribution in strengthening your operations at sea and ashore as well as in solidifying your maritime operation.”

At the Combat Information Center, the NFNL presented the overview of the schedule for the MTA Sama Sama 2018 highlighting that Commo. Driz, being the designated officer conducting the exercise, brought the MTA to NFNL in La Union from the traditional venue which was in Subic Bay, Zambales.

The MTA will be participated in by around 800 participants from the United States Navy and six observers from Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. All subject matter expert exchanges, class discussions, seminars, lectures and practicals will be conducted in the headquarters while community relations projects will be conducted around identified areas in the City of San Fernando, La Union.

In response, Gov. Pacoy guaranteed the support and participation of the Provincial Government of La Union for the activity. Also present in the briefing is ABONO Party-list Representative Vini Nola Ortega who committed her support in the activity given her presence in the Congress saying, “In congress, if you want my help especially Philippine Navy, I will be your champion.”

Maritime Training Activity Sama Sama is designed to enhance the complexity and diversity of training opportunities, while strengthening the longstanding alliance between the U.S. and the Republic of the Philippines.
