LA UNION PROVINCIAL BOARD APPROVES ORDINANCE CREATING TEN OUTSTANDING FARMERS IN ORGANIC AGRICULTURE AWARD

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of La Union approved on third and final reading the Draft SP Ordinance No. 225-2020 creating the Ten Outstanding Farmers in Organic Agriculture of the Year Award in the Province during their 34th Regular Session on February 18, 2020 at the SP Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The draft ordinance, jointly authored by SPM Geraldine R. Ortega and SPM Jennifer C. Mosuela, intends to aid for the promotion and development of organic agriculture in the province by incentivizing and recognizing outstanding farmers in the said agricultural technology.

Legitimate local or resident organic agriculture farmers of the province as well as natives outside La Union but are currently residents of the province are qualified to be nominated for the said award with the criteria of the annual selection to be based on Republic Act No. 10068 or the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010.

Selected awardees received a plaque of recognition together with a cash incentive of 10,000 Pesos each during the Farmers and Fisher Folks Month Celebration of the Province of La Union on February 25, 2020.

SPM Ortega said that the passage of this ordinance will be a big boost in the Agricultural Industry of the province with the aim to position La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
