A total of 250 volunteers gathered together to take part in the global effort of removing trash from the ocean and its coasts through the International Coastal Clean-Up Day on September 21, 2024, at Bauang, La Union.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, through Executive Assistant Eleazar Belgica, expressed her support for the program, “Gusto ko po kayong pasalamatan for your big sacrifice for our mother nature… Sa simpleng pagpulot ng mga kalat sa dalampasigan, nakakagawa po tayo ng malaking impact sa ating kapaligiran at sa nakakasaksi sa ating magandang gawain.”

This activity, spearheaded by the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Bauang, aimed to raise awareness of the impact of plastic pollution on nature and promote environmental stewardship. It also involved collaborative efforts from the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Sangguniang Kabataan, Barangays Baccuit Sur, Baccuit Norte, Calumbaya, United Pentecostal Church, DOERs, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Don Eulogio De Guzman Memorial National High School, Baccuit Elementary School, Baccuit National High School, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 1, Department of Education, Paringao National High School, and community volunteers. Together, they collected 1,025.30 kilograms of trash composed primarily of plastic waste.
