La Union Prioritizes Good Oral Health, Brings Smiles to Learners

Demonstrating commitment to improve oral health among constituents, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in partnership with Rosario District Hospital and other partner organizations, embarked on a dental outreach program in San Luis Elementary in the far-flung town of Pugo on February 15, 2024, as part of the celebration of the National Oral Health Month.

PGLU offered free dental services such as flouride application and oral checkup to 227 preschool and gradeschool pupils. As part of the information drive, the team also provided lectures on basic oral healthcare to raise awareness and educate young learners on the importance of good oral health. Beneficiaries also received toothbrush.

La Union Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David underscored the importance of maintaining oral health to improve the well-being of an individual.

"It is my utmost priority to improve the quality of life of my constituents that is why the PGLU remains committed in its initiatives to make our dental healthcare services accessible and available to the people especially to the young ones." the lady Governor added

Based on the data from the Provincial Health Office, 15, 069 children aged 1-4 years old were affected with dental caries in 2023. On the other hand, the province recorded 5, 482 orally-fit children last year.

To sustain good oral health of constituents, the six district hospitals of the PGLU are proactive in offering dental services such as tooth extraction, oral prophylaxis, dental restoration and flouride application.

As part of Gov. Rafy's ultimate program in the health sector, PGLU continues to strengthen its initiatives in delivering accessible healthcare to geographically isolated areas in the province through free medical and dental services during the conduct of PUSO Medical and Dental Mission.
