La Union Peace and Order Status Checked

Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III calls to order the joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), La Union Anti-Drug Abuse Council (LUADAC) and the Council of the Five Pillar of Criminal Justice System (CFPCJS) held at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union on July 17, 2018. Said meeting discussed the situation of peace and order in La Union for the Second Quarter of 2018.

The index crimes in the Province of La Union significantly decreased for 25% in the second quarter of 2018 compared to the second quarter of 2017. Index crimes include physical injury, rape, theft, murder, robbery, homicide, carnapping and cattle rustling. There is a total of 72 index crimes recorded from April to June 2017 compared to the 96 crimes recorded for the same period last year. This was revealed during the joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), La Union Anti-Drug Abuse Council (LUADAC), and Council of the Five Pillars of Criminal Justice System (CFPCJS).

Said meeting was presided by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III on July 17, 2018 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

Gov. Pacoy extended his appreciation for the accomplishments and statistics for the second quarter of the year and shared his learnings in his recent vacation in Japan and as well as its remarkable peace and order.

Provincial Director PSSupt. Ricardo G. Layug, Jr. of the LUPPO presented the state of peace and order of the Province comparing the statistics from the second quarter of 2017 and the second quarter of 2018. He reported that index crimes decreased for 25% while non-index crimes increased by 1.08% due to police initiated operations.

Agent Darnel I. Bacate of PDEA RO-1, on behalf of PDEA RO-1 Dir. Bryan B. Babang, presented the Anti- illegal Drug Situation in La Union highlighting their operational accomplishments having seized shabu and marijuana with an index value of almost ₱42,000.00.

Department of Justice Provincial Procecutor Atty. Danilo C. Bumacod reported the status of La Union’s major cases filled in court and under prosecution.

La Union Provincial Jail Provincial Warden Rimas G. Calixto gave an update on the cases of La Union Provincial Jail Inmates with a total population of 132 and 203 pending cases due to some inmates having more than one pending criminal cases.

BJMP RO-1 Province of La Union’s statistics was presented by La Union Provincial Jail Administrator JCInsp. Narcisa R. Ramirez. She also discussed their jail services in the province that made BJMP RO-1 the Best Region of 2018 nationwide, BJMP Province of La Union the Best Provincial Office of 2018 nationwide, and JCInsp. Ramirez the Best Provincial Administrator of 2018 nationwide.

RTC Executive Judge Alpino Florendo tackled the responses and actions being taken on RTC cases as well as the Summary of Criminal Cases filed and disposed for the second quarter of 2018.

Chief Probation and Parole Officer Frances Tomelden presented the Parole and Probation Administration Program for the rehabilitation of offenders. She emphasized the initial DSWD payout of ₱5 Million.

Discussions and suggestions were made to maintain and further improve the strategies in maintaining peace and order in the province. The Councils also committed to continue their service to preserve the safety and security of La Union.
