LA UNION PASS A RESOLUTION OF CONDOLENCE TO LATE FORMER SENATE PRESIDENT PIMENTEL

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan led by Board Member Jennifer C. Mosuela, passed a resolution of condolence to former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel, Jr. on Tuesday October 22, 2019.

The Board Resolution stated that Pimentel was known to be the father of the Local Government Code. Pimentel's contribution to the enactment of the Local Government Code of 1991, a landmark legislation that strengthened the role of local government units in national development had paved the way for the empowerment of local governments.

“His passing is a great loss not only to his bereaved family but to the nation as a whole,” the resolution states.

The former senator died due to lymphoma and pneumonia on October 20, 2019.

In the span of more than four decades, Pimentel dedicated his life of service to the Filipino people as a senator, assemblyman and Minister of Local Government.

As a champion of freedom of democracy, he emphasized the primary of rule of law and respect for the Constitution and recognized the special protection needed for the poor and underprivileged.
