The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III in coordination with Dr. Analyn Sagun, Dean of College of Agriculture, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus (DMMMSU-NLUC), spearheads the skills development training for youth on Mushroom Production at the La Union Technology and Livelihood Development Center on June 27, 2019.
The one-day skills training was attended by around 40 youth, mostly out-of-school, from the different Local Government Units of the province.
Dr. Sagun discussed the different types of mushrooms and ways how to test if they are edible or not. She also discussed the five phases of mushroom cultivation from the time of composting, spawning, casing, and pinning, up to the time of harvesting.
She elaborately demonstrated how to do the process of mushroom cultivation after which, each participants take turns in the return-demonstration of the actual preparation.
The activity is one of the PGLU’s strategy in the promotion of nutrition through its Agri-Tourism programs targeting particularly vulnerable groups, such as out-of-school youth, empowering them on entrepreneurship and income generation.
