The Province of La Union and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) were adjudged as the country’s Best Fishery Program Implementers for 2018 during the Awarding Ceremonies in celebration of the 55th Fish Conservation Week held on September 17, 2018 at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)- Central Office, Quezon City.

The national awards, dubbed “GAWAD PAGKILALA” were bestowed to BFAR institutional partners and individuals in recognition of their efforts and initiatives which gradually supported the national government’s continued advocacy for sustainable management of fisheries and aquatic resources, particularly in the campaign against illegal fishing.

La Union, under the leadership of Governor Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, stands as one of the frontline advocates and implementers of a well- defined and strategic fishery management system that continues to respond to pressing and immediate concerns of the marginalized fisher-folks.

Gov. Pacoy had always considered fisheries, duly aligned with his Agri-Tourism vision, as one of his top priority projects as enshrined in the over-all Provincial Development Master Plan with the OPAg serving as the lead implementing department of the Provincial Government of La Union.

Executive Assistant II Justino F. Casuga, and OPAg Fishery Unit Head- Leony O. Gagni jointly received the said awards on behalf of Gov. Pacoy.
