La Union is on heightened alert as Super Typhoon #PepitoPH intensifies, placing the province under Signal Nos. 3 and 4 as of the 11AM weather forecast today, November 17, 2024.

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), under the leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, is implementing comprehensive and provincewide measures to ensure the safety of KaPROBINSYAnihan and mitigate the impact of the typhoon.

Gov. Rafy, in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), has directed all local government units (LGUs) to enforce preemptive evacuation in areas prone to flooding and landslides. Evacuation centers across the province and Barangay DRRMs have been prepared to accommodate affected families, ensuring the availability of food packs, clean water, medical supplies, and essential equipment.

Heavy machinery are ready for deployment for immediate clearing operations, while emergency generator sets have been deployed to critical facilities, including hospitals and evacuation centers. Relief services for augmentation are being prepared for distribution to LGUs to meet the needs of evacuees. The La Union Command Center is operating 24/7 to provide real-time updates and receive emergency reports.

LGUs of coastal areas have also been alerted to issue advisories to temporarily suspend all water activities, such as swimming, fishing, and boating, due to hazardous sea conditions caused by the typhoon.

With #PepitoPH’s projected trajectory over the next 12 to 24 hours, the PGLU strongly encourages kaPROBINSYAnihan to remain vigilant, stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor official announcements from PGLU and PAGASA. As of this writing, no class or work suspensions have been announced provincewide for the following day.

The Provincial Government remains steadfast in its commitment to the safety and well-being of its people during times of calamity. Everyone is urged to remain #AlertoKAPROBINSYAnihan and adhere to all safety advisories.
