La Union Conducts 2nd Agri-Tourism Art Competition

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) in partnership with Artists Guild of La Union (AGLAUN) held the 2nd Agri-Tourism Art Competition on February 26, 2019 at the Capitol Grounds, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
As part of La Union’s Activities for the 169th Foundation Anniversary and in celebration of the National Arts Month, the Art Competition was created for students and individuals who are interested in revealing their talents through arts. It was designed to encourage participants to promote La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon in an artistically.
The competition is divided into two categories: Amateur and Professional. The Amateur Category was opened to students from various schools in La Union and is divided into two sub categories, Amateur 1 (A1) for elementary pupils and Amateur 2 (A2) for high school students. Professional Category on the other hand, is open to individuals ages 18 to 45 that possesses a strong artistic skill to paint using oil or acrylic. There were 10 participants for A1, 19 participants for A2 and 31 for Professional Category.
Participants for A1 and A2 did their artwork on-the-spot at the capitol grounds while participants for Professional Category submitted their entries beforehand. The artworks were judged simultaneously by national and local artists. Mr. John Van’t Hullenaar, a Canadian Artist and owner of the Dutchman4art Gallery in Canada, Dr. Antonio “Ton” Raymundo and Mr. Al Perez both renowned artists of the Tuesday Group, were the judges for the Professional Category while local artists Mr. John Philip Parmisano, Dr. Christine Go and Mr. Rodel Rillera for Amateur. Awarding ceremonies followed after the two and a half hour on-the-spot art making.
Winners for A1 were Artemis Barajas as 1st Place; Stiffi Meredith Dazen as 2nd Place; and Jedd Ryle Rilloraza as 3rd Place. Amateur 2 winners were Jenica Dennise Galleta as 1st Place; Jeril Vonn Rilloraza as 2nd Place; and Nicole Lim as 3rd Place for A2. Lastly, for Professional Category, Raphael Claude Clemente won 1st Place; Gary D. Agcaoili was 2nd Place; and Darryl Arthus Casugay was 3rd Place.
La Union is the home of many talented artists. The competition aimed to develop the skills of the young artists who bring honor and pride to the province.
