LA UNION AWARDS CHAMPS ON ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES

Essential to the attainment of it's vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025, La Union, led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David, recognized the winners of the Search for Cleanest, Safest and Greenest Local Government Unit (LGU) in the Province of La Union on June 28, 2023 at Agora Events Center, Thunderbird Resort, Brgy. Poro Point, City of San Fernando, La Union.

After series of site validation and evaluation of the different Local Government Units and Municipal Bodies of Water, Provincial Government of La Union awards the Cleanest, Safest and Greenest LGU of the Province; Cleanest Municipal Bodies of Water; and Best “Magsidalus Iti Arubayan” Barangay Implementers.

Winners of the said search received their plaques and prizes including First to Third Class Municipalities awardees Bacnotan as First Place; Balaoan as Second Place; and Naguilian as Third Place. For the Fourth to Fifth Class Municipalities, winners were Santol as First Place; Sudipen as Second Place; and Caba secured Third Place.

For the Municipal Bodies of Water Coastal Category, the winners were Immuki Island (Balaoan) as First Place; Urbiztondo Surfing Area (San Juan) as Second Place; and San Carlos Coastal Area (Caba) as Third Place while in the Fresh Water Category the winners were Bulalakaw Falls (Bagulin) as First Place; Tapuakan River (Pugo) as Second Place; and Tangadan Falls (San Gabriel) as Third Place.

Finally, for the Best “Magsidalus Iti Arubayan” Barangay Implementer Rural Category, the winners were Brgy. Ubagan of Santo Tomas as First Place; Brgy. Casilagan of San Juan as Second Place; and Brgy. Tagudtud of Bagulin as Third Place. For the Urban Category the winners were, Bgry. Dr. Camilo Osias of Balaoan as First Place; Brgy. Quirino of Bacnotan as Second Place; and Brgy. Magallanes of Luna won Third Place.

With the aim to harmonize with the policy agenda of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. in mobilizing all sectors of the society in helping and transforming their communities into clean, green and safe areas, the Search aims not just to institutionalize a system of providing recognition to the cleanest LGUs in the province, but also to make a difference especially in molding the sense of responsibility of each kaprobinsiaan in preserving the environment and to promote a venue for people’s participation in community development efforts.

In her message, Gov. Rafy highlighted, "I take this opportunity to recognize all your efforts and commend you all for taking the initiative to raise awareness, relevance, and jumpstarting plans towards preserving our environment. May this meaningful event and our worthwhile collaboration continue to flourish and serve as a motivation for us to achieve a clean, safer and environment-friendly province."

The governor also congratulated all the winners and enjoined them to support #LaUnionPROBINYAnihan to forge stronger ties with the kaprobinsiaan in sustaining safe, green and litter-free province while working together in solidarity to secure a sustainable future for the next generations to come.
