LA UNION ANIMAL DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY OPENED

As part of the Rabies Prevention and Control Program, the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, headed by Dr. Nida N. Gapuz, opens the La Union Animal Diagnostic Laboratory on February 8, 2021. Services offered in the laboratory were rabies examination, fecalysis on pets and livestock, skin scraping, and blood chemistry analysis.

With the aim to make the province free from rabies, the Provincial Government of La Union through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet) headed by Dr. Nida N. Gapuz, opened the La Union Animal Diagnostic Laboratory on February 8, 2021 at the OPVet, City of San Fernando, La Union.

Services offered in the laboratory are rabies examination, fecalysis on pets and livestock, skin scraping, and blood chemistry analysis.

Detection is a vital in the prevention and treatment of rabies. The establishment of a rabies examination laboratory will boost Rabies Prevention and Control Program of the OPVet.

Rabies is a highly fatal disease caused by Lyssavirus, transmitted thru bite of an infected animal and is characterized by muscle paralysis, hydrophobia and aerophobia.
