In an effort to address the persistent food price hike, and ensure food security in the province, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), in collaboration with the regional and provincial-line offices of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Agriculture (DA), National Food Authority (NFA), Department of Social Welfare and Development DSWD), and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), launched the localized "Kadiwa ng Pangulo" (KNP) sa La Union on September 18, 2023 at Old Boy Scout of the Philippines Parking Grounds in Brgy. Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The localized KNP initiative in the province, which will run from September 18-20, 2023, is the continuation of the KNP program initiated by the Marcos administration which is dedicated to achieving food security and stability in the country. It aims to provide local farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with a ready market while offering consumers access to high-quality and safe food products.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David, together with the Regional and Provincial Directors and representatives of DTI, DILG, DA, NFA, DSWD, and DOLE, led the ribbon cutting to formally launch KNP sa La Union.
The event was actively participated in by local farmers, farmer groups, and MSMEs who displayed a range of fresh fruits and vegetables, well-milled rice, fish, meat, processed products, and handicrafts. The products were made available to the public at affordable prices, facilitating direct sales between farmers and consumers.
Gov. Rafy expressed her gratitude for the collaborative efforts that led to the successful launch of KNP sa La Union. She also challenged the government offices to make such initiatives more frequent, benefiting both the agriculture sector and consumers.
"Nais ko po sanang pasalamatan ang mga organizers ng event na ito. Ang ating Office of the Provincial Agriculturist at lahat ng partner agencies natin kasama na ang Department of Agriculture, DSWD, DOLE, NFA, DTI, DILG, at lahat ng nagbigay ng assistance. Ang challenge ko po sa inyo ay gawin nating mas madalas ang aktibidad na ito which not only help our farmers and fisherfolks but also our consumers," the Governor said.
As the KNP sa La Union gains momentum, it is anticipated that it will not only stabilize food prices but also promote the growth of local businesses, strengthen food security, and enhance the livelihoods of farmers and MSMEs in the province. This promising initiative embodies the spirit of La Union PROBINSYAnihan demonstrating how local governments and communities can work together to overcome challenges and achieve shared goals.
