Gov. Pacoy has reminded every kaprobinsiaan to continue adhering strictly to the minimum public health standards, as the threat of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) persists.

This reminder comes as the province has noted an increase in the COVID-19 cases in the recent weeks, with 176 active cases as of February 25, 2021.

Gov. Pacoy reiterated this reminder as he convened the Provincial Core Team Against COVID-19 (PCTAC) on February 26, 2021 in a video teleconference meeting.

In the meeting, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Eduardo Posadas presented the province’s data on COVID-19 cases, which revealed that 76% of the patients in the province were asymptomatic.

Hence, Gov. Pacoy emphasized that the staying at home remains to be a vital factor in preventing the spread of the virus.

With the noted increase in cases, the province’s epidemic risk level rose from low to moderate level.

Dr. Posadas clarified, however, that the number remains at manageable rate, as the facilities and manpower are enough to address the surge. He reported that the province’s bed capacity stands at 47% occupancy, 40% of which are ICU beds. 43% of the LIGTAS COVID centers (isolation centers) are occupied.

COVID-19 supplies are also consistently being procured and replenished, Acting Provincial General Services Officer Arvin Camacho reported.

It was also ensured that a contingency plan is in place, in case the risk level continues or further elevates.

Gov. Pacoy also urged the PCTAC to ensure that testing among COVID-19 suspects and close contacts is timely and expedited. As of February 25, the PGLU has conducted a total of 73, 881 tests, 97.75% of which yielded negative results.

Gov. Pacoy also ordered the PCTAC to improve on contact tracing in the province, as he remarked that the PGLU remains resolute in its mandate to drive the province into its steady and careful transition into the ‘new normal.’

As he closed the meeting, Gov. Pacoy enjoined the PCTAC to be relentless in their mandate to lead in building a Stronger La Union, a province worth living in.
