Gov. Ortega enters into MOA for the improvement of Dairy Industry in La Union

Governor Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III enters into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the conduct of Research and Development in the Dairy Industry in La Union after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has approved a resolution authorizing the Honorable Governor to enter the said MOA on behalf of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU).

With the approval of a resolution during the session on May 16, 2022, the proposed agreement will set up obligations and responsibilities for the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), PGLU and the Rosario Dairy Cooperative

The MOA will enable the farmers, through the Carabao-based Business Improvement Network (CBIN), avail good quality carabao stocks at all times at a reasonable price that will encourage them not just to develop dairies in rural areas but also develop appropriate technologies that are cost effective

It is seen that CBIN aims to establish a robust carabao-based enterprise in identified provinces, thereby creating livelihood for farmers. It will kick-start the development of the dairy sector in the province through herd build-up of genetically improved dairy carabaos, provision of processing equipment and supplies, and establishment of market outlets.

Under the MOA, the PCC shall provide post-harvest dairy equipment to the PGLU and facilitate the acquisition of the dairy carabaos for the distribution to the farmer members of the cooperative. Also, PCC shall facilitate the preparation of the proposal for the implementation for the province-wide dairy project to develop the dairy industry. On the other hand, the PGLU will be supplementing technical and logistical support to the farmers while monitoring and evaluating their programs periodically.

Meanwhile, the Rosario Dairy Cooperative is in-charge of receiving carabao supplements and shall be responsible for the activities involving buffalo enterprise. The cooperative shall also provide infrastructure facilities and formulate policies specifically for dairy buffalo production.

With the said MOA, the Provincial Government of La Union and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is looking forward for the fast progress of cattle farming and dairy industry in La Union that will contribute in the economic growth of the province.
