Fight Against TB Reinforced in BDH

MAKIALAM, TB AY LABANAN.Nurse I Charizza Ringor of Bacnotan District Hospital promotes awareness on Tuberculosis (TB) on March 16, 2021 at the Out Patient Department in celebration of the World Tuberculosis Day which falls on March 24. The activity also aimed to inform the public that TB is curable and to remind safety protocols when in public to avoid the spread of the disease.

To promote the awareness about Tuberculosis (TB), Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH) management conducted a participative lecture on March 16, 2021 at the Out Patient Department of BDH, Bacnotan, La Union.

TB lectures are conducted periodically as constant reminders of the things to do to eliminate the spread of tuberculosis. It is also aimed to eliminate stigma and discrimination against those with tuberculosis.

Nurse I Charizza Ringor enumerated the signs and symptoms for the early detection of the disease. She mentioned TB D.O.T.S. (Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse or Tutok Gamutan ang Mabisang Paraan), a diagnostic and therapeutic unit that caters patients diagnosed with TB or suspected of having TB, as the most effective approach in diagnosis, treatment and control of TB.

Nurse Ringor emphasized that tuberculosis is curable and there are things that can be done to protect one’s self from the disease. “Always cover your nose and mouth when somebody near you sneezes or coughs. Make it a habit to wash your hands, spend only short time in rooms where TB patients stays, take necessary vitamins to protect yourselves, do simple exercise and most especially, always wear mask,” she added.
