As a commitment to advancing agricultural education, innovation, and sustainability, the Provincial Government of La Union, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, spearheaded the Launching, Inauguration, and Groundbreaking Ceremony of new facilities of Bungol Provincial Farm School consisting of the Robusta Coffee Clonal Garden, Plant Nursery, and Composting Facility on October 29, 2024, at the Bungol Demonstration Farm, Balaoan, La Union.
The Robusta Coffee Clonal Garden promises to be a vital resource for enhancing local coffee production with 54 BPI-certified Robusta Coffee Mother Trees as sustainable source of vegetative shoots. The Plant Nursery was funded under the Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES) Program as the propagation house of quality coffee, cacao, and other fruit-bearing seedlings that can thrive in diverse conditions. Finally, the Composting Facility supports the promotion of organic agriculture and waste reduction by generating high-quality compost from agricultural waste to nourish the farm school's crops.
These facilities underscore the Bungol Provincial Farm School’s dedication to nurturing an environmentally conscious and agriculturally skilled generation. Workshops and training programs are also in the pipeline to ensure widespread access for Balaoanians to these new resources.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David expressed her heartfelt gratitude in seeing the spirit of La Union PROBINSYAnihan embodied in upgrading the Bungol Provincial Farm School. She also believes that the new facilities will further uplift the LUcal agricultural community through information-dissemination and livelihood-provision as it paves the way for future generations of farmers.
Also present during the event were Office of the Provincial Agriculturist Officer in Charge Sharon A. Viloria and Senior Agriculturist Marcelo Otanes; Bungol Barangay Captain Windy Valdez; and the Department of Agriculture Representative and High Value Crops Development Program Focal Ms. Maricar Bongais.
With these advancements, the Bungol Provincial Farm School is poised to become a center of agricultural innovation and sustainability, and La Union to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon.
