DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS. In observance of the National Down Syndrome Consciousness Month and Mental Retardation Week, Dr. Ardilyn A. Nuval, educates parents at the pediatric ward of Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH), La Union on February 20, 2019. Down syndrome also known as Trisomy 21 is one of the most common genetic birth defects affecting approximately 1 in about 800 babies. It is a genetic disorder that involves birth defects, intellectual disabilities, and characteristic facial features. Dr. Nuval emphasizes that parents should be more supportive and understanding in dealing with children with this disorder.
