Dog Vaccination for a Rabies-Free La Union Conducted

Dr. Alex Mamuyac of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian vaccinates a dog in Brgy. Bagbag, Bauang, La Union on June 4, 2019 as part of the National Rabies and Prevention Program Implementation of the Provincial Government of La Union. In said activity, a total of 410 dogs were vaccinated.

As part of the implementation of the National Rabies and Prevention Program, the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, headed by Dr. Nida N. Gapuz, conducted an anti-rabies vaccination activity for the month of June 2019 in the tourism sites of La Union in coordination with the Municipal Agriculture Offices.

A total of 410 dogs were vaccinated and 230 pet owners were served. 31 dogs were vaccinated in the surfing area of Brgy. Urbiztondo, San Juan; 22 dogs in the Grape Farm of Brgy. Bagbag, Bauang, La Union; 62 dogs around Bahay na Bato in Brgy. Nalvo Norte, Luna, La Union; 25 dogs around Agoo Basilica in Brgy. Consolacion, Agoo, La Union; 108 dogs around Pugo Adventure in Brgy. Cares, Pugo, La Union; 33 dogs around Halo Halo de Iloko in Brgy. 1, San Fernando City, La Union; and 129 dogs around Thunderbird Resort in Brgy. Poro, San Fernando City, La Union.

The Republic Act No. 9482 known as the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 is an act providing the control and elimination of human and animal rabies. Since dogs are the primary source of the majority of human rabies deaths, there is a need to intensify anti-rabies vaccination in the province.
