The Provincial Government of La Union receives two recognition during the 5th Ecological Solid Waste Management Summit with the theme β€œSama-samang pagkilos, sama-samang paghilom, ikaw, ako tayo ang kalikasan” led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Regional Director Maria Dorica Naz-Hipe on June 22, 2021 (Tuesday) via videoconferencing.

The first award recognizes the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) for being the first province in Region 1 to attain 100% approval of all LGU 10-year Solid Waste Management Plans and outstanding practices on solid waste management pursuant to the provisions under the Republic Act 9003 or the β€œEcological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.”

The second award recognizes the PGLU for the 100% compliance on Section 37 of RA 9003. Section 37 of RA 9003 states that β€œNo open dumps shall be established and operated, nor any practice or disposal of solid waste by any person, including LGUs, which constitutes the use of open dumps for solid waste, be allowed after the effectivity of this Act: Provided, that within three (3) years after the effectivity of this Act, every LGU shall convert its open dumps into controlled dumps, in accordance with the guidelines set in Section 41 of this Act; Provided further, that no controlled dumps shall be allowed five (5) years following effectivity of this Act.

These environment awards received by the PGLU reflect how we continue to be more efficient when it comes to showcasing our care for our natural environment. PGLU under the leadership of Gov. Pacoy Ortega is committed to fostering its #KalikasanNaman for we are one with nature, and not apart from it.
