DATA PRIVACY PROTECTION IN PGLU STRENGTHENED; IMPROVES SERVICE DELIVERY, RISK ASSESSMENT

To further strengthen the privacy and security of all the data collected and processed by the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), the Office of the Provincial Governor-Information and Communications Technology Unit (OPG-ICTU) in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology Region I (DICT-R1) conducted a three-day training and seminar on the Data Privacy Protection via Video Conferencing.
There were 98 participants from various PGLU Offices and District Hospitals took part in the training and workshops to further understand the significance of data privacy protection.
Ms. Mary Jane B. Nerona, OIC-Technical Operations Divisions Chief of DICT-R1; Mr. Kleve Laren Jullan Ducusin, ILCDB-Regional Focal Person; and Engr. Noel Ramos, Provincial Head of DICT-La Union were also present at the said training.
PGLU's Data Protection Officer Designate Atty. Dominic Jose S. Puzon emphasized the significance of data privacy awareness in each employee's day-to-day job activities. He went on to exhort everyone to put the knowledge they will earn into practice in their daily lives, not only at work.
Mr. Mark Anthony Portabes, a Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Advocate and a DICT Certified Trainer on Data Privacy Protection and Cybersecurity thoroughly discussed the R.A 10173 also known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012, its Declaration of Policy along with its Goals, Principles, and Guidelines; the Rights of Data Subject Respected; the Imposition of Penalties; the Data Privacy and Security Measures Implemented; and the Data Privacy Act of 2012 Rules and Standards.
Participants completed the aforementioned training by attending a Case Study session. The OPG-ICTU Unit Head, Mr. Gerry D. Binas-o, stresses in his closing remarks the significance of handling sensitive and private data because failure to do so can result in fines.
Under the direction of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David and with assistance from the DPO, Atty. Puzon will abide by RA 10173 to ensure that data is exchanged in a way that promotes growth and innovation while preserving individuals' right to privacy. The organization will institutionalize data privacy compliance's five pillars to ensure that information security management conforms to international requirements. Strictly and competently following the act can safeguard firm information and aid in decision-making regarding service delivery and risk assessment in general.
