CDH EMPOWERS BASIC LIFE SUPPORT

READY TO RESCUE. Caba District Hospital (CDH) personnel and community members participate in the simulation activity during the 3rd day of the Basic Life Support and First Aid Training on April 24, 2019 at the CDH Conference Room, Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union. The same training was held for the second batch of trainees on May 6-8, 2019.

Caba District Hospital (CDH), in collaboration with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), conducted a 3-Day Basic Life Support (BLS) and Standard First Aid Training on April 22 to 24, 2019 for the first batch and May 6 to 8, 2019 for the second batch at the CDH Conference Room, Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union.

A total of 81 participants in which sixty nine 69 were CDH personnel and 12 were barangay health workers, kagawad, day care worker and barangay tanod coming from the different barangays of the municipality of Caba, La Union joined the activity.

Routine discussion on the importance of first aid and basic life support was provided by Christine Paulette Navarro and Marvin Camarao of PDRRMO. Different topics such as bandaging, splinting, triaging, tagging, carrying, proper use of rescue equipment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and rescue breathing for adult patients demonstration were taught by the speakers.

According to Luz C. Gundran, a barangay health worker from barangay Santiago Norte, Caba, La Union shared during the closing program that the said training developed her skills and knowledge on BLS and first aid. She also suggested conducting regular training on BLS and first aid to update and enhance their skills and being able to help stabilize the patient, give them first aid while waiting for emergency responder during emergency situations in their respective barangays.

Basic Life Support and First Aid training is a yearly activity of CDH as part of the Disaster Preparedness program of the hospital. It aims to update and enhance the skills and knowledge of the hospital personnel and develop competence among barangay personnel in preserving life, preventing further injury, alleviating suffering, and providing immediate care.
