Also discussed was the revised guidelines on the management of rabies exposure highlighting the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations on shorter, more feasible pre and post exposure prophylaxis protocol to maximize the use of the rabies immunoglobulins and the guidance on the selection and use of human rabies vaccines that will address the global shortage of WHO pre-qualified human rabies vaccines. Ms. Beñas emphasized that to be able to manage the spread of rabies, participants are encouraged to take their part in the prevention.
The activity was participated in by health workers from the Rural Health Units of Bauang, Caba, Aringay and Agoo; Local Government Officials; other District Hospitals and CDH staff via zoom and facebook live with 23 shares, 893 views and 1,775 people reached. Participants also showed their commitment to end the rabies disease through a campaign to increase awareness about rabies prevention.
Rabies remains to be a public health concern in the country hence, health institutions should take their part in raising people’s awareness to the danger of infectious viral diseases like rabies. Pet owners should practice responsible pet ownership by having pets vaccinated and keeping them safe whether inside or outside the house and reporting stray animals to the local government authorities.
