Caba District Hospital (CDH) in collaboration with Brgy. Wenceslao, Caba, La Union conducted a massive cleanup drive at the coastal area of Brgy. Wenceslao on September 21, 2018 as part of the annual International Coastal Clean Up Day.
Together with CDH’s Chief of Hospital, Dr. Gretchen F. Aromin, Wenceslao barangay officials and volunteers picked up trash and marine debris from the shoreline.
CDH collected a total of 27 sacks or approximately 189 kilos of trash, most of which are plastic materials, containers and diapers, which are non-biodegradable.
The massive influx of garbage and marine debris was caused by the flood and high tide during the super typhoon Ompong, said Wesceslao Brgy. Chair Frenie Cueto.
CDH Coastal Clean-up Drive is an annual activity of the hospital to create awareness in taking care of the seas, oceans, rivers and waterways. This activity also aims to engage the community to remove trash and debris from beaches and waterways, identify sources of the litter and to change the behavior that causes pollution.
