CDH CELEBRATES HOSPITAL WEEK WITH HEALTH EDUCATION DRIVE

BREASTFEEDING IS NOT A CHOICE, IT IS A RESPONSIBILITY. In celebration of the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Week and National Breastfeeding Week, Caba District Hospital (CDH) Midwife Rowena Sagun discusses the importance, benefits, proper way of breastfeeding and the ten step of successful breastfeeding during the Information Education Drive held at the Outpatient Unit of CDH, Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union on August 6, 2019. The said activity was participated in by the Outpatient Department (OPD) patients and watchers.
In celebration of the Hospital Week 2019, Caba District Hospital (CDH) conducted an Information Education Drive tackling Mother-Baby Friendly Initiative Awareness, Breastfeeding, Family Planning, Sight Saving Awareness and hospital services held at the Outpatient Unit and inpatient wards of CDH, Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union on August 6, 2019.
CDH Nurse Medy A. Maglaya, RN discussed the importance of Family Planning. She highlighted that family planning is important for the health of a mother and her children, and the family’s economic situation. She also reiterated that family planning allows individuals and couples to anticipate and attain their desired number of children and the spacing and timing of their births through the use of contraceptive methods like pills, condom, calendar method, intrauterine device (IUD) and fertility awareness.
With the goal to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, which yields tremendous health benefits, Midwife Rowena Sagun tackled the importance, benefits and proper way of breastfeeding among the parents in the waiting area. She relayed that breast milk is best for the babies, and the benefits of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition. In addition to containing all the vitamins and nutrients a baby needs in the first six months of life, breast milk is packed with disease-fighting substances that protect a baby from illness.
Meanwhile, Nurse Maricar Y. Casugay shared her knowledge to the admitted elderly patients the importance of proper eye care and prevention of eye diseases. She emphasized the importance of protecting and taking good care of the eyes and encouraged them to be aware of available means of maintaining eyesight. She also informed the patients that according to the Department of Health, cataracts remain the leading cause of blindness followed by glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration as the secondary causes. Visual impairment are mainly caused by uncorrected refractive errors followed by cataracts and glaucoma.
This annual celebration is in line with the Presidential Proclamation No. 181 declaring August 6-12 of every year as National Hospital Week. The main objective of this celebration is to promote awareness on the health programs and the services offered by the hospital.
Information Education Campaign is a regular activity of the hospital to promote awareness and emphasize that prevention is better than cure.
