In celebration of Earth Day and in line with the Caba District Hospital (CDH’s) Environmental Protection and Preservation Program, CDH conducted various activities for the protection and preservation of the environment on April 22, 2019 at CDH, Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union.

Chief Dr. Gretchen F. Aromin led the beautification and planting of malunggay trees in the hospital’s micro garden located at the 3rd Floor of the hospital building. She encouraged the staff to protect and preserve the environment through planting of trees and proper waste management.

Hospital personnel also actively partipcated in the planting of malunggay seeds and were given vegetable seeds like okra, sitaw and kangkong for their own home backyard gardening.

Earth Day was launched on April 22, 1990 to mark a global commitment to building a safe, just and sustainable planet. Then President Corazon C. Aquino inked Proclamation No. 553 on April 16, 1990 in support to Earth Day.

Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed the Presidential Proclamation 1481 on April 2008 declaring April 22 of every year as the “Philippines’ Earth Day” to raise the level of awareness on the gravity of environmental degradation and destruction in the country that threatens the very quality of life of many Filipinos.

CDH’s Environmental Protection and Preservation is a program of the hospital which aims to raise awareness and encourage public to protect and preserve the environment. This program is in support of Gov. Pacoy’s vision for La Union to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
