CDH: BREASTFEEDING RE-ORIENTATION

As part of the Caba District Hospital (CDH’s) Mother-Baby Friendly initiative Program, CDH conducted a 3-Day Re-orientation on Breastfeeding on May 15-17, 2019 at CDH Conference Room, Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union.

A total of twenty 21 CDH personnel attentively listened to various topics which included Executive Order 51 or also known as the Milk Code, Ten Step to successful breastfeeding, Proper positioning of breastfeeding, proper attachment, breast care, cup feeding and expression of milk were discussed by Nurse Kristian C. Ducusin; Policies of Breastfeeding Program tackled by Dr. Nancy Catherine Balanon; and the Importance of Breastfeeding and Importance of Continued Breastfeeding after 6 months were imparted by Chief Nurse, Chona B. Gachallan. Other topics discussed were Risks and Hazards of not Breastfeeding, signs that a baby wants to breastfeed shared by Nurse Medy A. Maglaya; and Breastfeeding Support Group (Role to the success of breastfeeding Program) by program coordinator Geraldine T. Posadas. After each topic an open forum was conducted to accommodate questions and other information coming from the participants.

Mrs. Posadas emphasized that breast milk is best for the babies, and the benefits of breastfeeding extend well beyond basic nutrition and in addition to containing all the vitamins and nutrients a baby needs in the first six months of life, breast milk is packed with disease-fighting substances that protect a baby from illness. She also encouraged the participants to promote breastfeeding not just in the hospital but as well as in the community.

The objectives of the lecture are to update personnel’s knowledge on breastfeeding and mother-baby friendly initiative program of the hospital, proper demonstration and to develop personnel’s skills toward a much improved delivery of health care services for the community.
