SP Committee on Education and Culture Conducts First Committee Hearing

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Committee on Education and Culture, chaired by Hon. Nancy Corazon M. Bacurnay, conducts its first committee hearing for the year on January 29, 2020 at the Cong. Eriguel Hall, 3rd Basement, SP Building, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union. The status and analysis of the National Achievement Test of learners in the province for the last three years; the status of learning facilities in schools; the effectiveness of the use of Iloko as a medium of teaching for Grades 1, 2 and 3; and a feedback on the patriotism of learners particularly on their familiarity of the national anthem were tackled in the meeting. Invited as resource speakers were Ms. Aidena L. Nuesca, Principal of Sudipen Central School, Ms. Claire P. Pulanco, Principal of Southern Naguilian National High School, Mr. Pablo C. Almoite, Jr and Mr. Norie Cubi both from Department of Education – La Union.

SP Committees Conduct 17 Joint Meetings

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of La Union conducts a total of 17 Joint Committee Meetings/Hearings on January 27, 2020 at the Cong. Eriguel Hall, SP Building, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union. One of the topics discussed was the inquiry of SP regarding the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Transportation and Communications Joint Memorandum Circular No. 001-2017 or the memorandum concerning the local public transport plan of Local Government Units. Invited as resource speaker was Planning Officer III Ms. Alethea A. Cedo from DILG Regional Office I.

PGLU Joins National Zero Waste Month Celebration

The Provincial Government of La Union joins the celebration of the National Zero Waste Month through a beach fun walk activity and coastal clean-up drive dubbed as “Pagna Pagna para iti Basura” on January 25, 2020 along the shorelines of Paringao to Pugo, Bauang, La Union. Over 800 participants participated in the event with an estimated 5 cubic meters of trash collected and disposed in the sanitary landfill of Bauang. Said activity was conducted in partnership with the Municipality of Bauang and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Environmental Management Bureau Region 1 in compliance to Presidential Proclamation No. 760 declaring January as National Zero Waste Month.

Pederasyon ng mga Iskolar Officers Take Oath

Gov. Pacoy administers the oath taking ceremony of the 1st and 2nd district elected officers of the Pederasyon ng mga Iskolar ng La Union on January 23, 2020 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

SP Conducts Performance Assessment For 2019

The Sangguninang Panlalawigan (SP) Office staff, headed by Secretary to the Sanggunian Mr. Donato A. Rimando, conducts their performance assessment for 2019 and first toolbox meeting for the year on January 23, 2020 at the Session Hall, SP Building, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The meeting was set to assess the department’s ratings obtained in their office, unit, and individual performance commitment and review. The department also agreed to continue the LegislaTour which is one of their initiatives in positioning La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.

DOH-RO1 Conducts Monitoring, Evaluation in BLDH

In preparation for the re-accreditation of Balaoan District Hospital (BLDH) for Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, Department of Health-Regional Office 1 (DOH-RO1) conducts monitoring and evaluation on January 23, 2020 in the hospital. Nutritionist Dietitian Ms. Jovita Leny S. Calaguas of DOH-RO1 interviewed patients, watchers and new hospital staff regarding breastfeeding and lactation management to check if BLDH complies with mother-baby friendly hospital initiative by promoting breastfeeding.

IOLUG Turns Over Donations To Taal Eruption Survivors

The Information Officers of La Union Guild (IOLUG) under the leadership of Ms. Sunshine Dela Cruz of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Agoo turns over donations to the Taal Eruption survivors to the LGU of Bauang through Mayor Menchie De Guzman on January 22, 2020. The IOLUG donated boxes of food items, toiletry and hygienic kits, sacks of rice, and clothes. Witnessing the turnover were Provincial Government of La Union – Media and Public Information Unit staff led by Ms. Joanna C. Guerrero, Bauang Information Officer Ms. Daisy Sayangda, and Aringay Information Officer Ms. Rowena Balangue.
