San Juan Receives 2nd Wave of Relief

WAVES OF MERCY, WAVES OF GRACE. While surfing and other tourism activities were halted in San Juan, La Union due to the COVID-19 pandemic, waves continue to roll not only in the shores of the province’s surfing capital but in the hearts of the people of San Juan. Indeed, they continued to ride the waves of grace that incessantly poured upon them, such as this second wave of relief goods given to 13,700 families on May 28, 2020 by the Provincial Government of La Union.

Bangar Receives 2nd Wave of Relief

WEAVING A FABRIC OF HOPE. In Bangar, where the tradition of loom-weaving is preserved, residents weave a fabric of hope as they begin to embrace the ‘new normal’ with solidarity and optimism. To aid them in their steady recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Provincial Government of La Union distributed the second wave of relief goods to 12,282 families in the town on May 27, 2020.

Gov. Pacoy Maintains Strong Ties with AFP

PEACE AND ORDER IN COVID-19 RECOVERY. The Provincial Government of La Union recognizes the need to ensure peace and order as a vital component in jumpstarting local economy as part of COVID-19 recovery. As such, Gov. Pacoy maintains strong ties with Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officials who could help strengthen peace and order in the province. On May 27, 2020, he met with BGEN MANUEL V. SEQUITIN AFP, Assistant Division Commander of the Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry Division (7ID), who is Gov. Pacoy’s mistah at the Philippine Military Academy 1989. Also joining the courtesy call at the Provincial Capitol were Gov. Pacoy’s other PMA ’89 mistahs namely PBGEN RODOLFO S AZURIN JR., Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 1; and BGEN AUDREY L PASIA AFP, Brigade Commander of the 702nd Brigade, 7ID; and, PBGEN OLIVER A ENMODIAS, Assistant Director, PNP Directorate for Integrated Police Operation Northern Luzon.

Bauang Receive 2nd Wave of Relief

LIKE THE VINEYARDS. In Biblical stories, vineyards are symbolic of God’s Faithfulness and Grace. Truly, He continues to tend the vineyards for His people, such as in Bauang, as they continue to harvest God’s blessings. On May 25-26, 2020, a total of 25,955 families in the town received their second wave of relief goods from the Provincial Government of La Union. All the town’s 39 barangays also received PPE sets.

PGLU Maintains Cleanliness, Conditions of Nursery

The Provincial Government of La Union through the Office of the Provincial Governor – Environment and Natural Resources Unit ensures the maintenance of nursery plant in the Barangay Pias, City of San Fernando, La Union during the community quarantine on May 25, 2020. The team maintains the cleanliness and conditions of the various tree and plant species to be used for various greening activity programs in the Province.

Bacnotan Receives 2nd Wave of Relief

SWEET AS THE HONEY. For residents of Bacnotan, La Union, life remains sweet as the honey — their town’s iconic product — despite the COVID-19 pandemic. With optimism, they begin to embrace the ‘new normal’ as a way of life. Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of La Union continues to provide assistance to its constituencies, such as in Bacnotan, where it distributed second wave of relief goods to 14,694 families on May 22-23, 2020.

ITRMC NOW A COVID-19 TESTING CENTER

ITRMC NOW A COVID-19 TESTING CENTER

The Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) in San Fernando City, La Union has now been accredited by the Department of Health-Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (DOH-RITM) as a testing center for Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) specimen.

The ITRMC, which serves as the apex hospital in La Union, could initially test up to 50 specimen per day. Testing capacity may increase as the laboratory personnel get familiarized with the procedure.

Priority for testing are specimen from confirmed and suspected patients admitted in hospitals within La Union.

The samples are being handled by the DOH-Center for Health Development 1 for transport to the ITRMC.

With this development, COVID-19 interventions in La Union may now be administered faster and more efficient.

To date, there are 150 suspected COVID-19 patients admitted in various hospitals in La Union, while two active cases remain.

Moving forward, the Provincial Government of La Union will strengthen disease surveillance in the Province through forging partnership with ITRMC’s testing center. It will begin testing of medical health personnel, checkpoint personnel and other frontliners to ensure the sustained operations to control and prevent spread of COVID-19 in the future.

Around 12,363 families in the town received their second wave of relief goods from the Provincial Government of La Union on May 20, 2020.
