As a significant step towards enhancing waste management practices in the district hospitals in the province, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David led the blessing and inauguration of the Materials Recovery Facility of Naguilian (NDH) and Bacnotan District Hospitals (BDH) on October 2 and 3, 2024, respectively.
A total of 160 Integrated Social Forestry-Certificate of Stewardship Contract (ISF-CSC) holders from Caba, La Union, have received seedling assistance from the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) to support them in their compliance to the Stewardship Agreement. These Stewardship contracts, under Integrated Social Forestry program, allow holders to occupy forestlands, cultivate 20% forest trees and 80% agricultural crops and/or established community-based forest management towards sustainable development of forest lands and resources of the province.
A total of 129 farmers from Brgy. Amontoc, San Gabriel benefited from the 5th Community-Based Mental Health Awareness Program launched by the La Union Multi-Sectoral Governance Council. The initiative is part of the Provincial Government of La Union’s strategy to strengthen agriculture sector’s primary and mental healthcare, empower their communities, and address social challenges they face as residents of geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in the province.

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet) assured the public that pork sold in local markets in La Union remains ASF-free and there is a sufficient supply, despite the ongoing African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in the province.
That familiar sight of smoke coming out of the neighbor’s dalikan with the pleasant aroma of the cassava steaming in coconut gata hints at a delicious merienda for the entire neighborhood on a cold, rainy afternoon in Pugo, La Union. Neighbors come to Nanang’s house to share stories over hot cups of black coffee. Old men indulge in deep conversations about how the typhoon destroyed their rice crops and how the strong water current in the river frightens them putting their carabaos and cows’ lives at risk. Women share stories about their “panagsekka” (uprooting young rice stalks for planting) and often give life updates to their neighbors. Marites conversations were an everyday thing back then.
A total of 250 volunteers gathered together to take part in the global effort of removing trash from the ocean and its coasts through the International Coastal Clean-Up Day on September 21, 2024, at Bauang, La Union.
