OPG-ENRU Assists in Turtle Hatchlings Release

Representatives from the Provincial Government of La Union through the Office of the Provincial Governor – Environment and Natural Resources Unit assist in the release of 78 Olive Ridley turtle hatchlings on February 25, 2020 at CURMA hatchery in San Juan, La Union. Local and foreign tourists, residents, and volunteers came to assist and witness the release of hatchlings from the nest to the sea. Usually the survival rate of turtle hatchlings from the nest to the sea is 1% but with the help of CURMA and volunteers that oversee and help in the release of turtle hatchlings, the survival rate of the hatchlings increases.

To discuss the issues and concerns on sand and gravel quarrying in La Union, the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB) convenes on February 24, 2020 at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Department of Environment and Natural Resources –Region 1, City of San Fernando, La Union. Mr. John Anthony F. Dacanay and Ms. Rommilyn V. Torio from the Office of the Provincial Governor – Environment and Natural Resources Unit represented the Provincial Government of La Union as members of the Board. Discussed were mining issues including the approval of permits and mineral deposits carrying capacity; general assemblies of sand and gravel permit holders; and schedule of activities like PMRB Forum.

SP Conducts Eight Joint Committee Hearings/Meetings

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of La Union holds a total of eight Joint Committee Hearings/Meetings on February 24, 2020 at the SP Conference Room, SP Building, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union to discuss various topics which include the review of municipal and city ordinances and communication requests coming from the Office of the Governor; the implementation of Republic Act 10929 establishing the Free Internet Access Program in public places in the country; and SP Resolution granting cash incentives to Mr. Frederick Ramirez for bagging Bronze Medal in the 4 x 400 Men Division during the 30th South East Asian Games Athletics Competition. Provincial Accountant Atty. Albert Padilla and Provincial Budget Officer Ms. Catherine Franco attended the said meeting as resource speakers to answer several inquiries from the members of the SP Committees.

First-ever Congress of the La Union Coalition of Civil Society Organizations, Inc. Conducted

Around 100 Representatives of the Civil Society Organizations in La Union gather for the first-ever congress of the La Union Coalition of Civil Society Organizations, Inc. (LUCCSO), on February 22, 2020, at the Diego Silang Hall, Capitol Building City of San Fernando, La Union. LUCCSO President Vini Nola Ortega led in the signing of the manifesto, where the CSOs affirmed their commitment to be active and responsive development partners for the Provincial Government of La Union.

PGLU Battles CoViD 19 in Agri-Tourism Village

THE SHOW MUST GO ON. To secure the health and safety of the public, health personnel in the La Union Provincial Health Office uses thermal scanners to screen temperature of guests entering the Agri-Tourism Village on February 21, 2020 at the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando La Union during the opening of the 170th La Union Founding Anniversary. The team also ensured that isopropyl alcohols were stationed in strategic areas. These are interventions to battle against the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019.

BDH Lectures on Face Mask Wearing, Cough Manners
