PGLU EXPANDS COVID-19 TREATMENT, ISOLATION THROUGH HOME OF HOPE BAUANG

The Provincial Government of La Union expanded its capacity for treatment and isolation of suspected Corona Virus Disease (CoViD-19) patients in the province, as it inaugurated the “Home of Hope” Regional Isolation and Treatment Facility in Acao, Bauang, La Union on September 16, 2020.

PGLU Equips Enhancing Proponent Groups under IREAP Subprojects

In support to the Investment in Rural Enterprise and Agriculture and Fisheries Productivity (IREAP), the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist collaborates with the Regional Project Coordination Office 1 to capacitate two members from San Fermin Agrarian Reform Cooperative and PAL-LIM Multi-purpose Cooperative by joining the Taxation and Records Management Training for Proponent Group under IREAP Subprojects on September 3-4, 2020 at San Fermin, Caba, La Union and PAL-LIM, Bauang, La Union respectively.

As proponent group of Philippine Rural Development Project, 20 key officers of the cooperatives were trained on the application of Certificate of Tax Exemption by Bureau of Internal Revenue La Union staff led by Ms. Anna Rose R. Lloren and additional topic on how to input and manage transaction records under IREAP Subprojects discussed by Mr. Mark C. Palaganas of Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1. The objective of the said training was to achieve better implementation of the IREAP-PRDP subprojects to cooperatives.

There is also a need for improving of cooperatives capacity and functionality in managing subproject implementation; focus on the institutional development; and strengthen coordination among the implementing agencies.

PCL Week Celebrated in LU

The Philippine Councilor’s League (PCL) La Union Chapter spearheads this year’s celebration of the PCL Week from September 1 to 7, 2020, with the theme “PCL: Collaborating Towards a Synergy of Creative Programs and Best Practices Amidst Global Adversity.”

The week-long celebration commenced through a webinar and online conference which was held on September 3, 2020, with the topic, Unified Legislation among all LGUs in the Province of La Union to Combat CoViD-19. The webinar’s objective is for the 19 municipalities and one city of the Province of La Union to have unified and harmonized local resolutions and ordinances for a solid foundation in fighting this CoViD-19 pandemic in support to the national government’s initiative, “We Heal and Recover as One.”

Invited as resource speakers were Office of Civil Defense RO1 Dir. Eugene Cabrera and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Eduardo Posadas.

PCL – La Union Chapter is currently headed by Naguilian Sangguniang Bayan Member Hon. Ruperto A. Rillera Jr., and by virtue of said position, he represents the league as Ex-Officio Member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

PGLU Ensures Sustained Support to District Hospitals, LUMC

The Provincial Government of La Union ensures the continuous support to its five district hospitals and the La Union Medical Center (LUMC), as these healthcare facilities remain on high alert in the frontlines against CoViD-19.
The PGLU on September 1, 2020 distributed two boxes of alcohol to each hospital namely LUMC and Balaoan, Bacnotan, Caba, Naguilian and Rosario district hospitals (DH). Caba DH also received additional 10 boxes of face masks.
The PGLU is resolute in the continuing battle against CoViD-19. By upgrading and empowering its healthcare facilities, the PGLU shall move onwards in building a #StrongerLaUnion.

NDH Levels up Patient Transport

To strengthen response to the Corona Virus Disease 2019 pandemic and to deliver immediate care to patients, the Naguilian District Hospital (NDH) acquired a new Patient Transport Vehicle (PTV) donated by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office on September 1, 2020 in North Edsa, Balintawak Quezon City, Manila.

The PTV will be used in transferring patients to a higher-level hospital from NDH. It was inspected by Dr. Eduardo S. Posadas, Provincial Health Officer II of Provincial Government of La Union.

The ambulance is expected to be a great help in fighting CoViD-19 in the province in its bid of achieving a #StrongerLaUnion.

PGLU Pays Respect to Philippine National Heroes

RESPECT TO OUR HEROES. In this time of pandemic, it is very timely to commemorate the sacrifices of our National Heroes as they continuously serve as inspiration to each of us to do our part in building a better nation.
In celebration of the National Heroes’ Day, the Provincial Government of La Union pays respect to Philippine National Heroes through a wreath laying activity at the Heroes Hill and Freedom Park, City of San Fernando, La Union on August 31, 2020.
Remembering our national heroes and their deeds is a way to keep the fire burning in creating new heroes of the present time. We salute our healthcare workers, frontliners, OFWs, and all those who are rendering their tireless services to the people in these trying times.
Let us do our part as heroes in our own way in building a #StrongerLaUnion.

Farmers Equipped to Help Build a Stronger La Union

In support to La Union farmers in this time of pandemic, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Office of Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG), distributes farm equipment on August 27-28, 2020 at OPAG Provincial Grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Headed by Col. Ramon F. Laudencia, Provincial Agriculturist, they distributed farm machinery, tools and equipment to recipient farmer’s organization, barangays and cooperatives. A total of 197 recipients benefited in the distribution which included 15 units of 7hp water pump; 42 units of 5hp water pump; 225 units of knapsack sprayer; 100 units of hose 1”; 100 units of hose 1.5”; 20 units of multi-cultivator; 100 units of 2” hose; and 21 pcs of corn planter.
This is a project from La Union Resolution No. 705-2019 approving the program of shares from the FY 2016 Collections of Excise Tax on Locally Manufactured Virginia-Type Cigarettes under RA7171 Agri-Production Support.
The PGLU believes in the contributions of farmers in creating a #StrongerLaUnion. Together, we can build a province worth living in.

LU Ordinance Prescribes New Normal Operations for LU Accommodations

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) approved an ordinance that prescribes the operations of hotels and other accommodation establishments under the new normal on August 28, 2020

Vice Gov. Mario Ortega together with the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) approved Ordinance No. 227 series of 2020 Prescribing The Operations of Hotels and Other Accommodation Establishments Under New Normal and Penalizing the Violations Thereof.

The said ordinance is anchored on the Department of Tourism (DOT) Memorandum Circular No. 2020-002 providing health and safety guidelines governing the operations of accommodation establishments under the new normal.

The new ordinance shall apply to all Accommodation Establishments in the Province of La Union in areas where a community quarantine is no longer in place.

Under the ordinance, those who violate the provisions shall be penalized with a fine of P2,000.00 for first infraction; a fine of P3,000.00 for second infraction; and a fine of P5,000.00 or an imprisonment of not exceeding one year, or both in the discretion of the court for the third and succeeding infractions.

Accommodation establishments shall report to the DOT Regional Office I every two weeks with the number of guests who have developed the symptoms of the illness, if any; and number of guests who were transferred to the appropriate facility, if any.

BM Christian Rivera, the author of the ordinance explained that the main objective of the PGLU is to protect and promote tourism as an indispensable element of the national economy and an industry of national interest and importance which must be harnessed as an engine of economic growth.

He added that to carry out the declared national policy of mitigating the transmission of CoViD-19 pandemic, the adoption of Health and Safety Guidelines for accommodation establishments registered under the DOT must be prescribed.
