PGLU Bolsters Peace, Order; Turns Over 2 Vehicles

In its continuous effort to uphold peace and order in the province amidst the pandemic, The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III donated two pick-up vehicles for the La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO) in a simple turn over ceremony of the vehicles on April 27, 2021 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union.

PGLU Now Accepts E-Tax Payment

In its continuous effort to improve ease of transaction and to adopt to the new normal protocols, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III through the Provincial Treasurer’s Office launched a digital tax payment system in the province.

PGLU Organizes Community PanTREE

In celebration of Earth Day, the Provincial Government of La Union through the Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) piloted the “Community PanTREE” in front of the Old SP Building, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union on April 26, 2021.

The said community panTREE distributes forest and fruit-bearing seedlings in exchange of forest and fruit-bearing seeds. Seedlings available are tamarind, chico, kawayan, narra, anonas, chessa, guyabano, breadfruit, rambutan, atis, and golden shower.

Several employees of the Provincial Government of La Union have availed the said service with 137 seedlings distributed in total. PG-ENRO aims to replicate the said program province wide on the onset of the rainy season.

In accordance with the Earth Day theme, “Restore Our Earth,” the Community PanTree ended on May 7, 2021 but was envisioned to be replicated in various areas of the province.

PGLU Prepares for Launch of Environmental Infrastructure Projects

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) is set to establish environmental support technologies and infrastructures such as waste disposal facilities, treatment facilities, and material recovery facilities to safeguard environmental integrity and ensure sustainable tourism in the Province.

The Environment and Natural Resources Office and Provincial Engineering Office spearheaded a consultative meeting with concerned local government units (LGUs) regarding these projects on April 23, 2021 via video conferencing.

The said meeting was presided by EnP. Annalyn Rosario-Valdez, Supervising Environmental Management Specialist. Present during the meeting were Engr. Ressie A. Estrella, Provincial Engineer and Engr. Sarah Raquepo of the Provincial Engineering Office.

As the PGLU envisions to become the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025, it is imperative to put in place various environmental infrastructure projects. Readiness of LGUs as to regulatory requirements prior to construction is currently being assessed.

The PGLU, as an enabling LGU, works in synergy with the component municipalities and city in attaining the vision of the Province.

SP REVIEWS PROCESSES, RE-ORIENTED VIRTUALLY

As part of the office’s wildly important goals (WIGs) for 2021, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Office together with the resource speakers from Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) Offices, Office of the Provincial Prosecutor, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) conducted a Virtual Orientation Seminar on the Review Process of the SP on April 22, 2021 via video conferencing.

PGLU vies for 2021 SGLG

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) convene for the CY 2021 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Coordination Meeting via video conferencing on April 27, 2021.

Ms. Agnes Grace A. Cargamento, Provincial Administrator presided over the meeting reminded Gov. Pacoy’s directive “Ito pong efforts natin are all efforts to bring about a Transformative Governance.”

SGLG is now an institutionalized award, incentive, honor and recognition-based program that encourages Local Government Units’ commitment to continuously improve their performance along various governance areas. However, due to the CoViD-19 pandemic, the SGLG Assessment activities were cancelled in 2020.

Nicolette Amon of the DILG presented the Assessment Criteria of the Provinces wherein through the Republic Act 11292 institutionalized by the SGLG, from the 7 original performance areas, namely Financial Administration; Disaster Preparedness; Social Protection and Sensitivity Program; Safety, Peace and Order; Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness; Environment Management; and Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts, three new performance areas were introduced, namely Programs for Sustainable Education; Health Compliance and Responsiveness; and Youth Development. Criteria in the different performance areas with its new indicators were discussed and presented during the meeting.

Ms. Michaela Louise T. Delfinado, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator presented the SGLG CY 2021 PGLU Self-assessment.

The orientation was conducted to go over with the new SGLG requirements and performance indicators and to give updates in terms of the status of assessment being conducted by the PGLU.

GOV. PACOY PRESIDES PROVINCIAL LOCAL AIDS COUNCIL MEETING

Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III presided the 2021 first quarter meeting of the Provincial Local AIDS Council, on April 15, 2021, held via teleconferencing.
As the chairperson of the council, Gov. Pacoy underscored the importance of monitoring other public health concerns, such as the Human Immunodeficiency Virus – Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS), while the province continues to tackle the most impactful health crisis – the COVID-19 pandemic.

FIRST ONLINE DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL GETS UNDERWAY IN LU

As part of the production rounds of INAIG: Dokyu-Kalikasan Fest (Inaig), the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the La Union Provincial Tourism Office (LUPTO) held an Online Film and Documentary Making Workshop on April 13 – 14, 2021 through video conferencing. The workshop was participated-in by the top five finalists of the said documentary competition.
