Hon. Erwina C. Eriguel, the outgoing president of the Liga ng mga Barangay – La Union Chapter, gave her farewell message as ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) during the 109th Regular Session of the SP on August 2, 2018 at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Provincial Legislative Building and Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
“Short as it is, my stint in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan as the representative of the Liga ng mga Barangay is indeed a memorable one, unforgettable, lifetime-treasure, educational and at the same time a hope na Sana maulit muli,” Eriguel said, and the audience burst in laughter.
She likewise thanked Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, Vice-Gov. Aureo Augusto Q. Nisce, her fellow SP Members (SPMs) and staff headed by Secretary to the Sanggunian, Donato A. Rimando, Department Heads of the Provincial Government of La Union and employees.
Out of 13 sessions, Honorable Eriguel was able to attend 11 sessions where her two absences were only due to a family tragedy. Her committees, Committee on Youth and Sports conducted two Committee Hearings while the Committee on Component City, Municipal, and Barangay affairs conducted one Committee Meeting and submitted two committee reports.
“Despite my brief stay, I can say that I learned true legislation in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. I shall value each lesson I learned from paper works, to dealings with the bigwigs, to working with high profile people, to working professionally with my colleagues,” she declared.
Hon. Eriguel started to turn emotional when she started to thank her brother, the late former Congressman of the 2nd District of La Union, Hon. Eufranio “Franny” C. Eriguel. She thanked her brother for the support and trust the he has given to her and for being “the wind beneath her wings.”
The outgoing ex-officio member then declared her full support to her successor and the new President of the Liga ng mga Barangay – La Union Chapter, Hon. Geraldine R. Ortega, she pledged her 100% support and assured that the league is in good hands as they will not only have a president but also a mother who will put love and heart to the work of policy-making.
Hon. Erwina Eriguel is the elected Vice-President of the Liga ng mga Barangay – La Union Chapter and served the unexpired term of former SPM Manuel Victor “Mannix” R. Ortega, Jr. who resigned from the office.
After her speech, SPM Eriguel was presented with a miniature mace and a painting as her token of remembrance of her stay in the SP.
