Nurse I Miriam Atijera of Balaoan Dictrict Hospital (BLDH) demonstrates to a 20 year-old mother who gave birth at OB ward on how an Intrauterine Device (IUD) works on August 5, 2019 at the BLDH OB Ward, Balaoan, La Union. Among birth control methods, IUD is given emphasis to young mothers since it lasts up to 12 years and can be removed anytime they want. It is considered by midwives as the safest method because not like pills and other birth control methods that are made up of chemicals that alter hormones, it is a small T-shaped device that is inserted into a woman's uterus to prevent pregnancy.
