To remind patients and their companions about the importance of clean body, food, and environment, Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH) Nurse Mr. Jeffrey Julian conducted a lecture at the Out-Patient Department, BDH, Bacnotan, La Union on September 23, 2019 in observance of the Health, Safety and Sanitation Month.

In his lecture, Mr. Julian said that the first step to prevent the spread of infection, illnesses, and cross-contamination is good personal hygiene particularly having clean hands. He then taught them how to do proper handwashing especially the children in the audience.

Aside from achieving personal cleanliness, he also pointed out that the environment should also be clean. He explained how diseases are spread from a dirty environment such as germs carried by house flies. He emphasized that poor sanitation allows germs to breed and spread causing disease and illness in the community. Therefore, everyone should be responsible in maintaining a clean environment.

Mr. Julian also gave preventive measures in food handling such as no bare hand contact with food; purchase safe food; store food properly; prepare food sanitarily; and cook food adequately.
