Affected families of the fire incident in Barangay III, City of San Fernando, La Union are now safe as the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III, continues to extend assistance for their recovery.

Today, January 22, 2022, nine out of the 17 total affected families continue to stay in one of the hostel of La Union as the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) provided them with medical check-up and additional surgical masks. Minimum Health Standards were also reiterated for their safety against the CoViD-19.

Victims were assisted and may stay in the hostel until Monday, January 24 while families who will be in need of temporary shelter beyond January 24, the PGLU secured the approval of the Department of Education for the utilization of the Ilocanos Elementary School as evacuation center provided with their own bathroom.

Food sufficiency for the victims is continuously ensured by the PGLU, local officials and the barangay council. Volunteers led by La Union Vibrant Women Inc. San Fernando Chapter President Rafy Ortega-David and Board Member Paolo Ortega are also set to distribute clean clothes and hot meals.

It can be recalled that yesterday, January 21, Gov. Pacoy Ortega directed the immediate provision of emergency assistance of the PGLU Disaster Response Team in extinguishing the fire. Emergency packs donated by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to the Province of La Union were readily distributed. P15,000 financial assistance, meals, and clean clothes were also distributed immediately to the victims.

With the continuous coming together of public and private stakeholders, the victims will be on recovery from the aftermath of fire. The Provincial Government of La Union is always ready to respond in emergencies such as this proving the resilience of a #StrongerLaUnion.
